Physical education, health and well-being

One, two, cha-cha-cha!

Helsinki Adult Education Centre Physical education and Dance study unit is divided into

  1. Exercise and health enhancing physical activity
  2. Ball and team sports
  3. Dance and expression

Our teaching consists of a wide range of courses in health enhancing physical activity, dance, body maintenance, and ball sports, as well as lectures and informational courses. You can also participate in various projects and performances as a performer or spectator. The teaching content takes into account the different levels and ages of people. We have courses for families, seniors, beginners, and more active exercisers. The intensity and competence levels of each course guide you to choose the most suitable courses.

Well-being education includes short and weekend courses on various self-care topics, alternative home care methods, health information, and courses on improving mental balance. The themes are examined at different stages of human life, at the individual, family, community, and societal levels, and, where appropriate, also globally.

Teaching locations are spread across the city in Helsinki Adult Education Centre’s own premises, school gyms, senior and youth centres, art institutions, urban environments, parks, and outdoor sports facilities.

The aim of the courses in physical education, dance, health and well-being is to provide students with knowledge, skills, and positive experiences in understanding their own bodies, maintaining their health, and promoting the well-being of body and mind. In the course selection we want to emphasise diversity, providing experiences, and creativity. Group-based teaching provides opportunities for socialising and exchanging ideas and experiences.
