Events and Lectures

For us, events and lectures are part of the learning experience. The events are also a way to showcase the skills that the students have learned through the courses. The lectures are diverse and free for anyone to come along to listen and learn.

Events

We love events at the Finnish Adult Education Centre. Our students design and deliver presentations as part of their courses. They can be theatre, music, singing or even photo exhibitions. We often hold course events for the public at the end of the semester. You can be part of the audience, an active participant, or both in these presentations.

The Finnish Adult Education Centre also has performing groups (choirs and orchestras), whose performances can be found at ilmonet.fi. Please note that we will update the event calendar below throughout the semester. We also organise our own event series, such as the Performing Arts Weeks in April–May, the Light and Joy Christmas event, and the Beggar’s Opera production in September.

Lectures

We organise lectures that are free of charge and open to everyone. Lectures are a great way to address emerging issues in a changing society.

In addition to current hot topics, the lectures cover classic topics that occasionally recur in the programme. You can listen to a single lecture or an entire lecture series, depending on your interests.

You do not need to register for lectures; all you need to do is arrive on time. In most cases, there will also be time for discussion after the lecture.

You can also watch some of the lectures online. Always check the lecture’s time, place and venue in advance at ilmonet.fi.

The lecture topics are categorised according to the following themes:

  • philosophy and religious studies
  • history
  • languages
  • literature
  • cooking and home economics
  • cultural awareness
  • arts and art history
  • handcraft
  • nature and environment
  • media
  • music
  • well-being and health
  • information technology
  • society

Welcome to the fascinating world of lectures!
