Media

Become the artist behind the screen
In media studies, you can study a wide range of communication: verbal, visual, moving image and sound. You can study photography and photo editing, video shooting and editing, publishing, and illustration. You can also learn about social media, computer animation, and podcasting. Through learning by doing, you will learn how to use media tools, express yourself, and understand how media communication works.
Media courses are generally short courses. Depending on your interests, you can develop your skills by combining several short courses into an intensive package lasting an entire semester. We also offer one- or two-weekend intensive courses where you can learn the basics in a short period of time. The adult education centre has a few independent media study groups for more advanced students.
Keep an eye on our lectures for free media-related lectures and information sessions.
Students mainly use their own equipment in media courses. In some courses it is, however, possible to use the adult education centre’s equipment, such as cameras, lights, tripods, microphones, and audio recorders. The IT classrooms have laptops available for use, with a wide range of software, from free programs to the professional-grade Adobe software package. Cultural Centre Malmitalo has a darkroom that can be reserved for independent use by the Helsinki adult education centre photography students.
A friendly, relaxed learning environment, enthusiastic students, and an inspiring atmosphere.
