Our art courses include courses for many different target groups, such as seniors and families. For immigrants, we offer English-language and bilingual Finnish-English and Finnish-Russian art courses, where you can practice your language skills while studying art.
Our program includes lecture series on art history and art theory. In connection with visual art education, we also organise various exhibitions open to the public featuring students’ works.
Students pay for their own materials and equipment. Some courses involve joint purchases, which is announced separately.

Art course levels
Most techniques are offered at beginner and advanced levels, as well as in-depth and expert-level courses. We also have specially themed art courses. When planning the course selection, we do our best to accommodate the varied needs of our art students. Some students need more time to develop a skill, while others have the need to study in a quicker pace and more intensively.
We aim to organise beginner courses in all areas of visual arts, covering the basics of image construction, composition, colour theory, tools, materials and selected techniques. In the beginner’s course, students become familiar with the materials and working methods used in the field and learn the basics of visual work.
Follow-up courses are for those who have mastered the basic skills. These courses include technical training, exercises applying theory, and searching for one’s own artistic expression. On follow-up courses, students learn to use the materials used in their work and to apply different working methods.
Advanced level courses focus on developing personal expression. In advanced level courses, students deepen their existing skills and learn to place their work within the broader social, historical and societal context of art.
More advanced students are offered a variety of courses that emphasise independent and self-directed learning. In advanced courses, students develop their own artistic expression towards their own goals. Self-direction and independence, as well as process awareness and social interaction, are emphasised in courses at this level. In courses aimed at more advanced students, teaching arrangements can be adapted to suit the objectives of the course. In some courses, the teacher may only be present occasionally, or teaching may be organised using an online learning environment or selected online services.
